Taking Time To Help

As the year comes to an end and the holidays approach it’s good to take time to think of those in need and help out when possible. Reflecting on the year behind us, we are reminded of an opportunity we had to help others. Dr. Jamie Sands along with a team of other dentists and their support workers volunteered with RAM (Remote Area Medical) this past August in one of their many expeditions to help those in need of medical care.

RAM is a non-profit organization with dedicated volunteers that provide free health care, dental care, eye care, veterinary services and educational guidance to people in remote areas of the United States and around the world. RAM was founded in 1985 and is a publicly supported, all-volunteer, charitable program that helps thousands each year. Dentists as well as medical doctors, nurses and many others, volunteer time and expertise to assist people all over the world. Medical supplies, medications, vehicles and facilities are all donated for these special events.

Patients that take part in these events, often come in with serious dental issues that affect their overall health. Many of these problems can be improved with just one visit. RAM has an amazing group of dedicated volunteer dentists that work hard under extreme conditions to make sure that each expedition is successful. In the beginning, RAM was only able to offer emergency extractions to patients. Today they are able to offer many more services, including, restorations, cleanings and fluoride treatments. Dr. Jamie is very pleased to be a part of this process that offers so much help to those in need.
