Importance Of Getting Veneers From A Cosmetic Dentist vs. A General Dentist
Although porcelain veneers are an instant orthodontic fix to numerous cosmetic, oral issues, it’s still vital that you use a skilled and experienced cosmetic dentist as opposed to a general dentist. If not, you risk:
- Your porcelain veneers dislodging
- The veneers placed improperly
- Not having the optimal porcelain veneer lifespan
- Having a poor color matching job done, resulting in you being dissatisfied with the cosmetic appearance of your porcelain veneers
Each of the above risks that are inherent with having a general dentist place your porcelain veneers as opposed to a cosmetic dentist can have many catastrophic results apart from cosmetic dissatisfaction. The most common of these is having a cavity form.
While the ceramic material porcelain veneers are made of are resistant to staining and future decay, if an inexperienced general dentist attaches your veneers, they might accidentally leave a ledge between the veneer and your teeth. As you show off your new smile, unbeknownst to you, miniscule food crumbs will accumulate inside the ledge and eventually form a cavity. In the more unlucky cases, a root canal or dental crown will be required due to the mistake of an inexperienced general dentist.
If you’re considering having porcelain veneers attached to your teeth to brighten your smile and fix its imperfections, please contact Smiles By Sands, serving Valley Village and surrounding areas of California, today to schedule an appointment with our skilled, cosmetic dentists.

Going to a general dentist is not that harmful but if you want to get veneers, I think it's better to go to a cosmetic dentist because it's their specialty.
