Dental Implants and Check-Ups

While the lifespan of dental implants can be upwards of twenty years, this success is not guaranteed without maintaining optimal oral hygiene and returning for regular dental check-ups.

Some of your check-ups will occur in the middle of the dental implant procedure. The purpose of these check-ups is to ensure the healing process was successful and you’re ready for the next stage of the procedure:

  • Osseointegration, which is the bonding of your jawbone and the implant, typically takes around three months. Check-ups will be required to keep tabs on the healing process
  • After the healing collar is placed, check-ups will be required to make sure your gum tissue has healed around the abutment

After your dental implant has been successfully placed, you need to brush with non-abrasive toothpaste and floss regularly. Check-ups will still be required every three to four months where you will receive a professional cleaning and the health of your dental implant will be examined.

If you are considering dental implants and would like to know how many check-ups will be necessary to guarantee a successful dental implant, please contact Smiles By Sands, serving Valley Village and surrounding areas of California, today.
