Color Matching and Porcelain Veneers
There are many factors that Smiles By Sands will consider in order to create unique porcelain veneers that will satisfy your cosmetic goals:
- Existing tooth color: veneers will be created to match and blend in with your current tooth color. If you wish all your teeth to be brighter, you might want to consider having your teeth whitened beforehand
- Skin tone: your veneers will compliment your skin tone
- Eye and hair color
At Smiles By Sands, we take every detail into account to ensure your satisfaction with the color of your porcelain veneers. Due to the ceramic material porcelain veneers are made of, you are guaranteed a durable, long-lasting, white smile that will be resistant to future staining agents, such as coffee, tea, nicotine, red wine, chocolate and the bacteria in your mouth that gnaws at enamel as you age.
However, you still need to maintain quality oral hygiene practices, like daily brushing and flossing and regular dental cleanings to ensure the health of your teeth behind the mask.
If you are considering porcelain veneers or would like to know more about how we color match porcelain veneers to your facial features, please contact Smiles By Sands, serving Valley Village, California, today.

Ideal Age to Start Whitening Teeth
The reason why Smiles By Sands does not recommend any teeth whitening procedures until the age of sixteen is due to their tooth nerves. Although it changes case-by-case, generally it remains enlarged until sixteen. If they were to undergo a teeth whitening procedure, the nerve could become irritated and cause sensitivity.
Before your child visits our office to have their teeth whitened, it’s important to discuss with them their goals, expectations and for them to understand how their teeth have lost their original pearly color.
- Do they consume sugary products?
- Do they drink dark beverages, like tea, coffee?
- Do they eat excessive amounts of chocolate or acidic foods?
In addition to age, there are circumstances when a person should not seek having their teeth whitened:
- Patients with extremely sensitive teeth
- If a root is exposed, cavities are present, enamel is considerably worn, or if a patient is suffering from periodontitis
Learn more by reading our questions on teeth whitening.
If your child is pestering you about having their teeth whitened or you would like to know more about the ideal age to start whitening teeth, please contact Smiles By Sands, serving Valley Village, California, today.
